The Visnea Editor: mask inpainting, object removal, background and upscale

You do not need to regenerate everything — often you just fix the image you have. How the four Editor tools work, why masks should be painted generously, and when to use References (img2img) instead.
Generation is not the only way to get the image you need. If a photo is almost perfect but there is a stray passerby, a dull background, or not enough resolution for print — that is a job for the Editor. It opens from the cabinet, the "Editor" tab.
The four tools

The flow is the same everywhere: upload the source image, pick a tool, paint a mask and write a prompt where needed, run. The result appears with a Before / After slider — drag it and compare before downloading.
Masks: do not be stingy
For "Object removal" and "Mask inpainting" a brush appears over the image. The painted area is what the model will change; everything else stays untouched. Brush size has a slider; "Clear" resets the mask. Until an area is painted, the submit button stays disabled.
Three rules of a good mask:
- Paint generously. Cover 10–20 pixels around the object: the model needs room to stitch the edges. Paint too tight and you get a halo.
- Include shadows and reflections. Remove a person but leave their shadow, and the photo instantly reads as edited. Shadow, floor glare, reflection in the shop window — all go into the mask.
- One task — one mask. Removing two objects in different corners works better as two passes: easier to control, and you re-run only the failed part.
Mask inpainting: how to phrase the prompt
The prompt describes only what should appear inside the painted area, not the whole scene:
a bouquet of peonies in a glass vase, soft daylight, matching the interior
If the result fights the surroundings, add a link to the scene: "consistent with the room lighting, same warm tones". Inpainting covers the everyday cases well: swap an object on a table, replace a sign, redress a mannequin, fill an empty corner of the frame.
When to use the Editor vs References (img2img)
The Editor changes part of an image under a mask. If you need to change the image as a whole — style, time of day, a character's outfit while keeping the scene — that is the References (img2img) mode in the Studio: upload the image as a reference, describe the change, and the model edits it from your prompt.
- Local fix (an object, a defect, lettering) → Editor: "Mask inpainting" or "Object removal".
- Whole-scene change ("make it night", "swap the background for a studio one", "same character, different pose") → References + Nano Banana, Nano Banana 2 or FLUX Kontext. Take Nano Banana Pro for complex multi-step edits.
Upscale and background: quick wins
- Upscale is the last step before print or handoff. "Draft on a cheap model → upscale the best take for 10 cherries" is almost always cheaper than generating everything at maximum resolution.
- Background removal returns a transparent PNG — a ready base for product cards, decks and collages. It performs best on high-contrast subjects with a clean outline.
A pre-run checklist
- The source is uploaded at the best quality you have (not a screenshot of a screenshot).
- The mask is painted with margin; shadows and reflections included.
- For inpainting — the prompt describes only the new area.
- The result is checked with the Before / After slider along the mask seams.
If the model gets it wrong, re-run with a slightly wider mask or a rephrased prompt — cheaper than regenerating the whole scene.
